Kauai Day 3

On the third day that we were in Kauai we decided to go Kayaking. This river was really close to where we were staying and we drove by it every day. It was really a good time...and a good arm workout. Especially on the way back up the river against the current and wind. I was again very happy that there are no snakes. We saw several fish that would jump out of the water in front of us.

After paddling up the river for about 2 miles we hiked a mile and a half in to a waterfall. This is part of the trail.

After Hiking back out of the falls we stopped at a swimming hole on the way back up the river. We didn't swim however because there were some fishermen across the river that wouldn't have appreciated the noise.

Kauai 2010 days 1 & 2

Justin and I just returned from a week in Kauai. We had a wonderful time and it was great to get some time away to relax. The first day there I ended up getting sick about an hour after landing (better than an hour before) so I won't spend a lot of time on that day. I found that I felt lighter and happier just seeing green leaves on trees and flowers everywhere. The first day and a half rained off and on also. I was worried that it was going to rain all week because that is what the forecast was showing before we left. We were very happy that the weather was great after the first little bit. On the second day we decided to drive to the North side of the island. This is a beach we found after walking through the jungle. I was very glad that there are no snakes in Hawaii. In fact I am seriously considering a move there for that reason alone.

When we reached the end of the road on the North side of the island we found a trail. We hadn't planned to hike that day but we decided to give it a go. Justin was wearing flip flops so he wasn't as prepared as he would have liked.This is the beginning of the trail...


This is a view from a little way up the trail. The scenery was amazing. At some points along the way there were drop offs of about a thousand feet straight down to the ocean. Beautiful, but a little unnerving.
